Is there a specific goal you yearn to manifest? Then look no further than the Magician card, Tarot’s widely considered “Manifestation Card.” The Magician card is #1 of the 22 Major Arcana cards. But since it follows the Fool (#0) it’s actually the second card.
Where, the Fool represents commencing the journey toward the goal, the Magician represents the “how” of manifesting it. For the Magician has assembled before him, tools of his trade, a cup, a wand, a sword, and a pentacle.
These tools are the emblems that represent the elements of the four Suits of the Minor Arcana. And integration of one or more of these elements is necessary for achieving the desired goal depending on its topic.
- Cups (Water Element) – emotions, relationships, creativity, intuition
- Wands (Fire Element) – projects, work, inspiration, passion
- Swords (Air Element) – communication, thought, struggle, action
- Pentacles (Earth Element) – business, career, finances, health
The Magician’s Manifestation Symbolism
The Magician holds a double terminated wand in his right hand toward Heaven while his left hand points toward Earth. And Tarotists have given this stance an “as above, so below” interpretation. Consequently, they consider the Magician an intermediary between the spiritual and physical realms.
Moreover, the wand the Magician holds up enables him access to the magic required for manifesting. And he is more than happy to share it with the Querent for their highest good.
Furthermore, the types of flowers depicted in the above traditional Rider-Waite-Smith card have a portent meaning. While Roses of Sharon above his head represent spiritual gifts, Lilies of the Valley at his feet represent physical gifts. Thus, the mixture of both flowers in the foreground signifies the Magician’s ability to cultivate and integrate spiritual gifts into the physical realm.
Finally, an horizontal infinity symbol floats above the Magician’s head signifying the eternal nature of the human spirit.
Therefore, due to its ample manifestation symbolism, the Magician is well deserving of the reputation as Tarot’s Manifestation Card.
When the Magician Manifests in a Reading
Magician Keywords: Manifestation, Resourcefulness (all the tools needed including psychic gifts), the Yes Card.
Should the Magician turn up in your Tarot reading, it’s most often a good omen. For this card reveals possibility of manifestation or urges the Querent use their manifestation tools to achieve their desired goal.
Besides Tarot’s Manifestation Card, the Magician is decidedly Tarot’s “Yes Card.” Therefore, this card reveals a particular outcome is likely. And if the Querent is asking about a desired outcome, the Magician is a positive omen.
Moreover, the Magician card may signal that developing the Querent’s psychic abilities is required for manifesting their goal. For psychic abilities are always a viable resource at one’s disposal in goal manifesting.
Reversed Magician Card
Personally, I don’t read reversed cards (upside down). But if you do, a reversed Magician can have a few different meanings.
The Magician reversed can mean the Querent is missing the resources required to manifest their goal. Or that they aren’t using them effectively.
Another possible reversed meaning is the Querent is not using the required amount of resources to manifest the goal. Or they are throwing more resources at the goal than are required. In this case, the Reader must use their intuition to determine whether too much or too little resource expenditure is the issue.
Additionally, if the upright Magician is a yes answer, then the reversed Magician may be a no.
Manifesting with the Magician Spread
Card 1 – What has recently occurred regarding my goal?
Card 2 – What is the current situation with my goal?
Card 3 – What is my desired next stage for my goal?
Card 4 – What do I need to draw my attention from to reach my goal?
Card 5 – What do I need to focus more on to reach my goal?
Card 6 – What actions are needed to reach my goal?
Card 7 – What might I experience regarding achievement of my goal?
This 7 card spread lends itself well to the horseshoe shape. In fact, most of my readings are conducted with 7 card horseshoe shaped spreads.
Final Words for the Magician Card
Note that the spread doesn’t ask if the Querent will achieve their goal. For the future is never written in stone. Because anyone involved in a situation can make a change that changes the final outcome. However, we can uncover what the Querent wants to know and more asking the question as what they might experience.
I hope you will give the Manifesting with the Magician Spread a try. First, it gives the Querent insights into where they were, are now, and moving toward with their goal. Second, it advises the Querent of what distracts them, what needs their focus, and what actions are required to manifest their goal.
