Wouldn’t you just love to consistently land an effective Tarot reading every time you read for yourself or someone else? If so, rest assured that you can pull off truly effective Tarot readings, if they include a few important anatomical parts.
What Makes a Tarot Reading Effective?
Plain and simple, an effective Tarot reading is helpful for the Querent (person requesting the reading). However, it’s important to note that a helpful reading may not always give the Querent what they want to know, but will always give them what they need to know.
10 Objectives of an Effective Tarot Reading
So, let’s analyze what exactly makes a Tarot reading truly helpful for the Querent. Every effective Tarot reading should, at the least, accomplish the 10 important objectives discussed below:
1. Begin With an Empowering Question – Every effective Tarot reading should begin with an empowering question, rather than one based on fate or timing. It’s best to stay away from Is/Will/When/Yes/No type questions.
Instead, it’s better to ask; what might I experience regarding my situation? or how can I achieve a desirable outcome regarding my situation? An empowering question keeps the focus on the Querent and what is in their control, not on what a third party may be thinking, feeling, or intending regarding the situation.
Furthermore, asking what the Querent may experience regarding their situation can not only give the Querent what they really want to know, but also supply additional details.
2. Give Insights – An effective reading offers important insights for the Querent as to where they are now, have been, and are likely headed regarding the situation they are asking about. These insights give the Querent an unbiased understanding of the true dynamics of their situation. Very often they just can’t see the forest for their “own” trees.
3. Tell the Story in the Cards – Any digital Tarot reading software can simply spit out textbook card meanings. But infinitely more helpful for the Querent, is to tell the story in the cards. This is accomplished when the reader interprets each card in relation to its card position, to other cards in the reading and, more importantly, to the original question for the reading.
4. Mix Standard Card Meanings With Intuitive Interpretations – Giving an effective Tarot reading requires the Reader be well versed in the standard card meanings. However, a card’s standard meaning may not always apply to the reading topic, such as a financial card in a romantic relationship reading. In this case, the Reader must use their intuition to interpret the card as it relates to the reading topic and the Querent’s question.
5. Give a Future Outcome – Although there is always a “possible” future outcome card included in every Tarot reading, keep in mind that this denoted outcome is only possible if all things remain the same. But alas, everything is always changing, and anyone involved in a situation has free-will and can make a change that changes the actual outcome.
Due to the free-will factor, rather than a concrete prediction, suggesting an “if you do this, or if nothing changes, then the outcome may be that” scenario is best here.
6. Answer the Reading Question – While wrapping up the reading, the Reader points out how the card interpretations have answered their initial reading question. This is imperative since the Querent has initiated the reading to have a question answered that is important to them.
7. Summarize the Reading’s Insights – As the Reader moves through the reading, the Querent may lose track of some earlier insights as later new ones pop up. Therefore, it’s important for the Reader to summarize the laundry list of important insights the reading offered.
A summary of the reading also ensures the Querent hasn’t “heard” something different from what the Reader meant to relay to them.
8. Offer Action Steps – Since, life doesn’t just happen to us without our participation on some level, it’s important to offer steps the Querent can take now to ensure the best future outcome for their situation.
For example, if the outcome indicates a career change, the Querent must seek out employment opportunities and apply for a job in a new field.
9. Leave the Querent With Hope – No matter how dire a Tarot reading’s result may appear, the Reader should always leave the Querent with hope for their situation. Assuring the Querent that negative cards in the reading are meant to be metaphorical, rather than literal, goes a long way. For example, the Death card rarely means actual death, but rather the ending of a thing for something new to begin.
Additionally, even a somewhat negative reading can be just what the Querent is looking for as confirmation of what they already know, or perhaps needs to know. Thus, even a bleak outlook can be helpful in moving them to make necessary hard choices regarding their situation.
Here is where suggested action steps can come into play. They offer the Querent hope if they take the suggested actions now, their outcome may be different from what is indicated in the reading.
10. Reader Offers Clarification as Needed – The Reader should always offer to answer questions or give clarification on any aspect of the reading. And pulling a clarification card or two is not out of the question.
However, the Reader is not offering here to pull cards on a different reading question or topic. Rather, this offer is to answer questions about the current reading, only. For a new reading question or topic requires a new reading.
Summing Up
By ensuring that your readings provide the above 10 important objectives of an effective Tarot reading, you will indeed deliver an effective reading, every time.
